Cultural and music vacation in Berlin

Here is a small selection from the numerous offerings in the cultural capital of Berlin. Including some special recommendations for your music vacation. All cultural sites can be easily reached from the Berlimus House by public transport.

Classical music

For fans of classical music, a visit to the Philharmonie and the Concert Hall is highly recommended. Both halls of the Philharmonie, designed by Hans Scharoun (1893-1972), are examples of extremely well-designed modern concert halls. A special recommendation is the Pierre Boulez Hall near the Unter den Linden State Opera. As in the Philharmonic, the audience sits around the concert podium. In the Boulez Hall you can even take seats in the immediate vicinity of the artists and feel the vibrations of the instruments under the soles of your shoes. And how about an evening at one of the Berlin operas? In addition to the State Opera, the German Opera and the Komische Oper, the Neuköllner Oper recommended, a small alternative venue with a wide repertoire from musicals to new music .

Pop

Of course there are also offers for pop and jazz fans. Clubs like Berlin’s Berghain are legendary. A special recommendation in summer is the Berlin Waldbühne with its unique atmosphere for outstanding outdoor concerts. The Friedrichstadtpalast, like the Waldbühne, has the largest show stage in the form of an amphitheater with a very good view from all seats. For jazz lovers, here is the “b flat” in a basement with an intimate atmosphere nearby of Alexanderplatz is expressly recommended.

Theatre

Or how about a visit to one of Berlin's famous theaters, the Berliner Ensemble or the Deutsches Theater? The 100-year-old Renaissance theater deserves a special recommendation, as it is worth seeing because of its original architecture and Art Deco furnishings. In addition to the state theaters, there is also an active independent scene and many small venues that are definitely worth a visit. A small theater that is dedicated to sophisticated literature, but also typical Berlin cabaret, is the Theater im Palais behind the Schinkel-Wache in the center of Berlin.

Exhibitions

Of course, museums and exhibitions are also part of the program of every visit to Berlin. The “Museum Island” is right in the center. When there is not construction going on, treasures from ancient times to modern times can be seen there. The “East Side Gallery” on Mühlenstraße is obligatory for visitors to Berlin. You can find out more about the Berlin Wall and therefore Berlin history in the Wall Memorial on Bernauer Straße. Here's another insider tip beyond high culture, but combined with a trip into Berlin's past: the Museum Blindenwerkstatt Otto Weidt, hidden in an impressive backyard nearby of the Hackischer Markt.
